A Brief Introduction to Chizhou City

Chizhou City is located in the southwest of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Chizhou has a history of nearly 1,400 years, dating back to 621 when it was established as a prefecture in the fourth year of Wude era(a reign title) in the Tang Dynasty (i.e. AD 621). In 2000, Chizhou was established as a municipality,having jurisdiction over Guichi District, Dongzhi County, Shitai County, Qingyang County, Jiuhua Mountain Scenic Area,Jiangnan Emerging Industrial Development Zone and Chizhou Economic & Technological Development Zone. With a total area of 8,399 square kilometers and a registered population of 1.601 million (permanent population of 1.328 million) at the end of 2022, it has won honors such as China Top Tourist City, National Garden City, National Forest City, China Habitat Environment Award, National Model City for“Double Support”, and Nominated National Civilized City.

In recent years, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, comprehensively implementing the spirits of 20th National Party Congress and Secretary Gerneral Xi’s speech in Anhui, Chizhou has been acting on the general principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, applying the new development philosophy and promoting high-quality development, to strive to create a comprehensive green transformation demonstration zone for economic and social development and a new situation for the modernization construction of the city. In 2022, the total regional GDP of Chizhou increased by 5.4%, ranking second in Anhui province in terms of growth rate; fixed assets investment increased by 15%, ranking the third in the province in terms of growth rate; the added value of industries above designated scale increased by 13.7%, ranking first in the province in terms of growth rate; the general public budget revenue increased by 14.2%, ranking second in the province; import and export value increased by 20.4%, ranking second in the province in terms of growth rate; the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 5.9% and 7.5% respectively, ranking first and second in the province in terms of growth rate.
